All investments should remain in Ukraine and grow, helping to develop the country's economy: Ruslan Shostak at the Business Wisdom Summit

15.04.2025

Ruslan Shostak, President of TERWIN Corporation, spoke at the Business Wisdom Summit, where he shared his vision for increasing Ukraine’s GDP through global investment projects. He announced the “Building Ukraine” platform to engage Ukrainian manufacturers in the implementation of the WINHUB logistics project.

Ruslan Shostak announced the launch of the “Building Ukraine” platform on stage at the Business Wisdom Summit during a discussion with Danylo Getmantsev, Chair of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Finance, Tax, and Customs Policy, and Ukrainian business leaders Roman Levchenko, Mykhailo Shtompel, Yevhen Kulikov, and Ihor Liski. During his speech, Ruslan Shostak emphasized that all investments must remain in Ukraine, grow, and transform into large-scale projects, thereby developing the country’s economy.

According to Ruslan Shostak, infrastructure development and global construction projects often serve as drivers of economic growth. Among the global examples is Dubai, which has transformed from a desert into a global hub for business, finance, and tourism. Investments in infrastructure have exceeded $500 billion. Tourism and investments have increased the UAE’s GDP fivefold over ten years—to $501 billion in 2023. In the U.S., the launch of the Interstate Highway System in the 1930s and 1950s served as a catalyst for growth across the entire country. Over $500 billion (in today’s terms) was invested in the project, creating 13 million jobs. In 1956, thanks to infrastructure investments, U.S. GDP grew by 4.1%. In China, the high-speed rail (HSR) development project has contributed approximately 0.5% to the country’s GDP from 2008 to the present. In 2019, more than 1.7 million new jobs were created within the HSR sector alone. High-speed transportation has improved regional integration, stimulated domestic trade, and fostered the development of local businesses.

“The country’s economic well-being directly depends on the scale of Ukrainian projects. Every $1 billion in investment can increase GDP by 0.5% to 1%—depending on the multiplier. Investments in logistics have a high multiplier effect. WINHUB has the potential to trigger a major economic boom in Ukraine. Every hryvnia invested generates nearly 7 hryvnias in total economic impact. Additionally, this translates to about 20,000 new jobs—both during the construction phase and on a permanent basis—in logistics, services, and related industries.  Global infrastructure projects do more than just inject funds into the economy—they set off a multi-level chain of changes. For us, as the owner and operator of one of the largest investment projects in Ukraine, it is important to create this multiplier effect. That is why we give preference to Ukrainian contractors. “We’ve created a special form where any Ukrainian company that meets international standards can apply to participate in the project. In this way, we want to provide opportunities for Ukrainian businesses to grow,” noted Ruslan Shostak, President of TERWIN Corporation.

The defense sector could have a similar multiplier effect today: the production of weapons and spare parts creates additional economic opportunities. Money is injected into the economy, related industries emerge, and this helps to fill the market.
